Something is happening, and Iâm not sure how to handle it.
I like having Sam around.
Iâve never been one for kids in the past, but having him here hasnât been as horrible as I thought it would be. Like Maya said, he spends most of the time in his bedroom playing video games. If heâs not in there talking to his friendsâsurprisingly, he doesnât yell or get upset like Iâve seen kids do in those viral videosâheâs watching something on Netflix in the living room.
Heâs a good kid. Funny. A little gullible, but itâs part of his charm.
Weâve had fun together this past week, and Iâm surprised to find Iâm a little sad heâs leaving for his dadâs right now.
Patrick is standing in the entryway, hands tucked into the pockets of his peacoat.
Iâm leaning against the kitchen counter, watching him.
Mayaâs not here. She called me earlier to tell me Patrick wanted to make up for last weekend and pick Sam up a little early. She warned me she might not be home in time to see her son off.
She sounded both happy and sad about it.
I wanted to ask her what was up with that, but I didnât want to overstep my boundaries. Especially not after what happened the other day when I plowed right through them.
I still canât get the way she writhed on the countertop beneath me out of my head, her orgasm within reach as I lapped at her perfect fucking tits, the same counter my hands are resting onâ¦
âThis is a nice building,â he says to me, pulling me from the memory that lives at the forefront of my mind. Maya and I havenât had a chance to talk about it yet, but Iâm sure itâs coming soon.
âThanks.â
And the silence engulfs us again.
He clears his throat a few times, and I tap my fingers against the kitchen counter.
I donât know what to say to him, and he doesnât know what to say to me.
âSammy, you ready?â he calls out.
âComing!â
Thank god.
The kid pads down the hall, a bag of stuff slung over his shoulder.
Heâs always dragging his PlayStation back and forth Maya says, and I have to say Iâm a little bummed. I was looking forward to getting some practice in. The kid whoops my ass too much for my liking.
âAll set?â I ask.
âYep, except I canât find my science book. I think itâs in my momâs car, but I donât have the keys. Can you tell her so she can bring it up to school tomorrow?â
âCan do, kid.â
âThanks.â He holds his fist out for me to bump. âYouâre the best, Nolan.â
âSee you later, shithead.â
Patrick lifts his brows at the nickname.
âInside joke,â I explain.
He nods with a grin. âI mean, youâre not wrongâ¦â
They shuffle out the door, and I let the quiet consume me.
Maya will be home any minute now, and weâre going down to River and Deanâs apartment, where weâll have to pretend we didnât almost fuck in the kitchen mere days ago.
I have to wonder for
